Today's Headlines

Missed the February Edition 2025 Newsletter, view it here!

Welcome to the March Edition of Sierra Toy Soldier News, written on a very damp day here in the Bay Area. Yes, we have another rainstorm coming in which is great to avoid a summer drought but is not so good for the damaged fire areas where the land is mainly clay and is very prone to causing landslides. Just one of the challenges with living in California.

Thank you to all who attended the West Coaster show and stopped by to say hi to Alex and Cody, who did a superb job of representing us at this event. Also huge thanks to Kevin, our volunteer who had as always tremendous fun setting up our room and also setting up our stands on Sunday.

Sorry the newsletter is being published later than normal. But it has been a crazy month with the new Tariffs and customs changes having a significant impact. We are hoping and praying that this ends soon.

We have some great announcements from King Á Country, John Jenkins and War Park.

John Jenkins Future Releases.

Scratch & Dent

Do you enjoy repairing or modifying toy soldiers and vehicles. Every now and again we receive figures and vehicles in need of a new home and some special care. If yes, this may be the section just for you.

Collectors Corner

Occasionally we get a rare opportunity to acquire individual items and complete collections for collectors that are thinning out their collection or from other dealers. These pieces are items that we do not normally stock. All are in mint condition or and in their original boxes, unless specified in the description. Please note these may have been on display.

So these are ideal pages to view if you are looking for that missing piece in your collection or just looking to find some very unique pieces that are not normally available.

This month we have added a very large collection of Aeroart, St Petersburg figures and also a very large collection of Plastic figures and Play Sets. We have also added Frontline French and Indian War sets in perfect condition.

Consignment Highlight

This month we feature sets from Thomas Gunn, First Legion, Britain's, Jenkins, King & Country, Frontine, St Petersburg and Plastics.

SPECIAL NOTE: Aideed’s Armed Militia

Mohamed Farrah Aideed was one of the most important ‘Clan’ leaders in Somalia during the 1980s and well into the 1990s making large sums of money through arms smuggling, drug trafficking and stealing United Nations supplied food relief and medical supplies.

To protect him, his family and their fiefdom Aideed had built up a well-armed militia of men, women and children who were both fanatically loyal to him personally and liberally supplied with all kinds of lethal weaponry usually from Moscow. These included the inevitable AK-47s… shoulder launched SA-7 surface-to-air missiles plus a whole range of heavy weapons including tanks, armoured personnel carriers and, of course, hundreds of RPGs.

In mid 1993 Mogadishu, anyone could purchase or obtain any weapon or indeed any complete weapon system that was currently on the market. For example, the latest Russian made RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade) cost as little as US$10:00 each … What a bargain!!!

MILITIA DRESS CODE

As you can see a Uniform Code of Dress never existed in Aideed’s Militia. His band of thugs was indeed a sight to behold with no two members being dressed the same way. Here is K&C’s first selection.
