Product Details

While it might be argued that Pickett was the Confederate General that played a major role in the last day of Gettysburg it might also be said that Heth was the one that played the key role in starting the battle. It was his division that ran head long in Buford's cavalry brigade on the first day. This engagement quickly developed as more troops were thrown into the fight to the point where both Meade and Lee decided to make Gettysburg the deciding battle of Lee’s invasion of the North. Heth's life was probably saved by his new hat – it did not fit quite right so he stuffed newspaper in it, which cushioned the blow when a Union shot grazed his temple.
