Special Note: "Uhlans” or "Ulans” were originally Polish light cavalry armed with a lance. The concept was adopted by first the French (under Napoleon) and then the Prussians and Austrians. By 1914 Germany had no less than 26 regiments of "Uhlans” ready for service.
