Representing the women who worked in the factories and shipyards during World War II, Rosie the Riveter was more than a cultual icon - she was the embodiemnt of American grit and determination. The 1942 poster "We Can Do It!" shows her sleeves rolled up and ready to work. During the war, the US Labor force was nearly 37% femail with one out of every four married women working outside the home.
