Welcome to the post West Coaster Show Newsletter. As always we had a great time, not only meeting many customers, face to face, and getting to know them, as well as spending time with the manufacturers. We had a great turnout of customers, not only from Northern California but as far away as Mexico, and Australia, and even South Carolina.
This year Myszka and I were on our own, as our son Andrew was left to run the store. We have to say a huge thank you to Rob, and Doug Humphrey, and our friend Jason Englund who helped up pack the room up on Saturday Night, but turned up at 6.30am on Sunday to help us set up. They had such a good time they came back at the end of the show also with George and Lorena to help pack back up again. Thank you, we would have been lost without you.
Build-a-Rama Event: We hosted the first Build-a-Rama Diorama teach in, as it was a great success. We focused on Terrain Mats and created in the space of 20 minutes 3 different dioramas. Mark of Build-a-Rama put together an outstanding presentation. Hope to do the same next year.
Figarti Event: Was totally oversubscribed and packed out. The highlight here was the launch of the new Pacific War series Battle for Tarawa. They produced a small video of there factory which went down very well as they did a walk through the production processes. Other highlights include pre-production pieces of the Chinese Opera series they are working on, totally magnificent.
King and Country / Sierra Event: This was a huge success, and was totally maxed out. Next year we will have to find a bigger conference room. We had 50 people attend. Andy was in great form and discussed K&C and answered questions from the floor. K&C produced a special promotional figure (only available to attendees) and a set of copies of his drawing which he autographed for people. Everyone had a great time.
The show itself was well attended especially on the Sunday. As always it was opened with the playing of the bagpipes and a march past of Re-Enactors dressed in British American Revolution uniforms, American Civil War and much more.
If you have ever get a chance to join us at the show, please do as we can guarantee you will have a terrific time.
In this mega edition, we have the 2010 releases from Britain’s and Corgi, latest releases from King & Country, Collectors Showcase, Conte,
John Jenkins, Honour Bound and much more in this edition.

News from Britain’s.
Richard Walker, GM of Britain’s was at the West Coaster, you could not miss his presence as he handed you the new 2010 Catalogue, with a big grin. Why the grin, because of the amount of new items in this catalogue, most of which were on display at the show. They all looked excellent and there are many highlights we will try to mention.
Because of the number of items, we cannot list them all individually so we are listing the major categories.
We also finalized plans for our Britain’s Open house scheduled for May 22 & 23. The Saturday will be a Britain’s day and open to every one. The Sunday we will be open that morning and will be have an American Civil War day especially for all the kids and all American Civil War Collectors. We need some volunteer American Civil War Re-enactors to add to the event and host a history table. If you are a Bay Area Civil War Re-enactor please contact us.
If you would like details, please contact us at

New 2010 Releases!
American Revolution
Music, on a noisy, smoke filled the 18th Century battlefield was used to transmit orders, in camp after the battle it was used to entertain, raise spirits and pass the time. The new fifer and drummer for the Continental Line, in reverse colors, brings some much needed music to the ranks of the Americans. The British Royal Irish and 10th Foot Light Infantry continue to grow as well with a line of advancing Royal Irish developing nicely.

American Civil War
Medical Series
At the start of the American Civil War there were not even 100 surgeons in all of the Union Army. The ambulance did not even exist. Care of the wounded on the battlefield was often an afterthought with the weakest and least disciplined soldiers tasked with clearing the wounded. Highlights include the limited edition sets include;

Art of War
With the release of these two new “The
Chosen Ground” sets, the key figures of the painting will soon be available. There have

Artillery
As
a follow up to there first Union Artillery set with Napoleon gun the new set for
2010 depicts a crew loading canister into the gun. The popular 12 Pound Napoleon
and 10 Pound Parrott Guns are now available as single pieces that can be used
alone or with the new series of individual artillery crewman that are suitable
as either Union or Confederate troops.

Civil War Leaders
Four new leaders from the Battle of Gettysburg join this growing range of
American Civil War leaders. Had it not been for Harry Heth’s curiosity and John
Buford’s tenacity the Battle of Gettysburg may never have happened. Union
General Meade took the advice of his subordinates and decided to make a stand at
this little Pennsylvania town that would prove the high water mark of General
Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia and the end of Confederate General Pickett’s
Division as he knew it. These men changed the course of the war.
Civil War Leaders

Cavalry
The
Union cavalry, armed with their Spencer repeating rifles was a force to be
reckoned with, especially dismounted. These new additions captures the fighting
spirit and striking yellow trimmed uniforms of the Union cavalry.

Confederate & Union Troops
Two
new Iron Brigade figures are suitable as generic pieces for any diorama or can
be used in “The Chosen Ground” set to fill out the ranks of the advancing 2nd

Classic Soldiers - Redcoats
Beginning with this release of Redcoats, any British line Regiment that is/was
on the establishment will now be included in Redcoats and will no longer be part
of any sub series. A good variety of uniforms and time periods join the 2010
line of Redcoats. From a 17th Century Musketeer to a 1970’s Guardsman with SLR
these latest figures continue to fill out the gaps in this enduring History of
the British Army.
Classic Soldiers

Elite Forces
The
Special Air Service or SAS distinguished themselves in the North African desert,
raiding far behind enemy lines, disrupting Rommel’s supply chain. From North
Africa we follow the British army of today to Mesopotamia and Afghanistan,
fulfilling a key role in projecting British military power abroad. Who better
than the famous "Paras" to do so!

Black Watch
Museum Collection
The
military miniature history of the 42nd Regiment of Foot, more popularly known as
The Black Watch, continues to grow with a new colour party to compliment the
early 20th century Pipes and Drums figures that were released in 2009.
Museum Collection

Napoleonic
We start of the new Napoleonic's with the Charge of the Union Brigade.
This new 2010 release is a Napoleonic vignette inspired by the painting Gordons
and Greys To The Front by Victorian artist Stanley Berkeley (1855- 1909). The W.
Britain scene depicts the combined charge of the Royal Scots Greys (2nd Royal
North British) Dragoons and the 92nd (Gordon) Highlanders against the French
infantry of D’Erlon’s Corps at the Battle of Waterloo. Other editions
include New French 4th Lancers, Black Watch Highlanders, 95th Rifles and new
Napoleonic leaders.

Sudan - War along the Nile
In
1881, Mohammed Ahmed, a Sudanese Islamic prophet, had declared himself the
“Mahdi” or “Guided One” and launched a desert revolt with the intent of removing
all foreigners from the Sudan. By 1884 the Mahdi and his forces had laid siege
to the largest foreign outpost in the Sudan, Khartoum. British Major General
Charles “Chinese” Gordon had been given the task of evacuating the city but
delayed too long and was trapped in the city.
Initially, the British Government was reluctant to send troops to Gordon’s aid,
but under intense public pressure relented with the dispatch of British troops
The Battle of Tamai under the command of Wolseley. The Gordon Relief Expedition
progressed very slowly and eventually Wolesley split his forces into separate
“River” and “Desert” Columns in hopes that the land force might arrive at
Khartoum sooner. Unfortunately the Relief Expedition did not reach Khartoum
until January 28, 1885, two days after a Mahdist attack and massacre that
resulted in the death of Gordon.
This new series by W. Britain will initially focus on two of the key battles,
Tamai and Abu Klea, and will grow to include the various units involved in the
campaign from both the river and desert columns.
Sudan - War along the Nile

World War One
The 1916 British infantry from the Somme are added to with three great
new poses including an officer urging his men forward into…? German infantry in
the distinctive later war Stalheim helmets and simpler uniforms make their first
appearance. Round out the new collection with some hyper realistic, very
versatile new scenic accessories that take up little room but give an instant
look and feel of the war torn battlefields of 1916.

Zulu Wars
The
new Isandlwana Series by W. Britain begins with a cross section of figures and
accessories to help recreate the battle. Durnford and some of his troopers as
well as new 24th Foot figures with an ox wagon and tents make up the first
release of British figures and accessories. A new Zulu Regiment, the uVe, who
were in the Zulu left horn and would have been some of the first to engage
Durnford, also join the initial line up. Many more releases
The
defenders of the Drift find a few new personalities to add to the mix. The
famous last redoubt and ox wagon with barricade also helps to just about
complete the compound. The Rorke’s Drift range will see some more stunning
personalities, accessories and unique figures added in 2010.

Show Report
K&C had on display the new French figures from WWI on display, the uniforms look terrific. The new Market Garden figures including the new paratroops due in April where on display, my favorite was the new radio jeep. But the
surprise announcement was the new Tiger Tank, expected to be announced in April. They also commissioned a special
D-Day harbor display, to show off the upcoming D-Day minus one releases.
"France, August 1914 and the country is once more at war with the hated Boches!"
K&C has mobilized its "L’Armee francaise" and les Poilus march off to battle resplendent in their
colorful uniforms of long blue coats, red pantaloons and scarlet and blue kepis. This first release focuses on the soldiers marching to the front as they would have appeared in those first days and weeks of the war to end all wars!
-
FW060 -- "General Joffre" - The ample figure of "Papa" Joffre inspired confidence in the public, his men and his fellow officers. Cool, calm and collected, Joffre was a "steady hand at the tiller" of the French Army in those early days. He is best known for regrouping the retreating Allied Armies and defeating the Germans at the First Battle of the Marne in 1914.
-
FW061 -- "General Foch" - Foch, was recognized by many, as the "most original mind in the French Army". Initially serving as a subordinate to Joffre he later became Supreme Commander of all Allied Armies in 1918.
-
FW062 -- Mounted French Officer - Proud and confident this mounted figure leads his troops forward.
-
FW063
-- Marching Officer - A bearded Lieutenant, sword in hand advances.
-
FW064 -- Marching Poilus - Three differently posed "Poilus" journey to the front.
-
FW065
-- Marching Soldier - A single "add-on" that can be collected in multiples to make a grand parade.
-
FW066 -- The Scout - A handsome little piece based on a Detaille illustration of a classic French Poilu.
-
FW067 -- Poilu attending to a General’s Horse - This pensive soldier holds the reins on his General’s mount.
-
FW068 -- Drum Major - Music plays an important part in virtually every army… including the French. This Drum Major instructs his musicians.
-
FW069 --Drummer
-
FW070 -- Bugler
Now the start of something a little different. This is the first of a unique series of poignant little vignettes depicting troops of three countries departing for the War.
-
FW071 -- "Auf Wiedersen" - This German "Soldat" tries to comfort his weeping fiancé as his Regiment departs.
-
FW072 -- "Au Revoir" - A different country… a different parting… As his wife holds his rifle this Poilu fondly cradles his small baby. Will he ever see them again?
-
FW073 -- "Goodbye-ee" - A Scottish soldier embraces his sweetheart as he goes off to war.
WWI

WWII - "COSSACKS"
Russian Cossack cavalry have the distinction of having fought both for and against Stalin’s Red Army. On the German side they fought with great
valor and ruthlessness especially on Anti-Partisan duties in Russia itself… and in the Balkans. At the end of the war most of these German Cossack units retreated westwards and surrendered to the British Forces. They were then handed over to the Russians… expecting and receiving little mercy.
-
WS142 -- Cossack Feldgendarmerie with Prisoner - A dismounted Cossack field policeman with an unfortunate Partisan suspect.
-
WS143 -- Mounted Cossack Officer - Wearing the traditional Cossack costume (with German badges) this officer,
saber in hand, is issuing orders.
-
WS144 -- Cossack Scout - Scanning the horizon for enemy activity.
-
WS145 -- Cossack holding Rifle - Looking to the right this Cossack, rifle held steady, is on patrol.
-
WS146 -- Cossack holding Rifle - Looking to the Left and with his rifle across the front of his saddle this is another member of the patrol.
-
WS147 -- Standing Cossack and Horse - This young Cossack is awaiting inspection.
-
WS148 -- Cossack Pointing - Another member of the patrol indicating while making his report.
-
WS149 - Dismounted Cossack NCO
-
WS150 -- "General Helmut Von Pannwitz" - This German cavalry officer was the commander of the Cossack Cavalry Corps. Extremely popular with his men he often wore Cossack uniform. After the war he chose to remain with his men when they were handed over to the Russians. He was executed by the Soviets in 1947.

WWII - Germany Army
-
WS134 -- PANZER III - Another alternative to the earlier released Afrika Korps version. This Panzer comes in the distinctive 3-colour camouflage typical of the mid war period. This particular model is suitable for both East and West Front displays.

WWII - "Meanwhile back at the BERGHOF"
- In Stock Now!
Seven add-ons to the Rogue’s Gallery of attendees at Hitler’s little hideaway in the mountains.
-
LAH104 -- "REICH LABOUR LEADER" - Konstantin Hierl, Reicharbeitsfuhrer of the paramilitary German Labour Service giving the Nazi "Heil Hitler" salute.
-
LAH105 -- "Heinrich Himmler Relaxing" - One of the Third Reich’s most feared and hated men. Reichsfuhrer SS Himmler enjoying a cup of coffee while sitting on one of the Berghof’s sun loungers.
-
LAH106 -- "EVA BRAUN" - Hitler’s long-time mistress and, briefly, wife. She met him when only 17 and working as an assistant to his personal photographer. By all accounts, friendly, outgoing and totally disinterested in politics.
-
LAH107 -- "Reinhard Heydrich" - Another of the most feared and hated characters in the Third Reich. Doomed to meet a well-deserved end at the hands of Czech patriots in 1942.
-
LAH108 -- "Berghof Sun Loungers" - Just a little outdoor furniture for the patio of the Berghof. Accurately based on photographs of the real thing. Two in the set.
-
LAH109 -- "Baldur Von Schirach" - Head of the "Hitlerjugend" and "Gauleiter" of Vienna.
-
LAH110 -- "Dr. Robert Ley" - Another important man in the Third Reich and Head of the German Labour Front. He killed himself while awaiting trial in Nuremberg in 1945.
Berghof

Scenic - "The Latest Desert Village"
Two more great (and useful looking) additions to the four already released pieces… Together they make a fine setting for Ancient Egypt… The Crusades… Napoleon in Egypt… WW2 North Africa… and even modern-day Iraq and Afghanistan.

Three brand-new renderings of the three most famous Alamo defenders - Crockett, Travis, and Bowie. Opposing these three brave defenders of the doomed mission are four dramatic mounted figures of Mexican Dragoons of Santa Anna’s army.

Australian Light Horse
WWI -- "Here comes Johnny Turk!"
British, Australian and New Zealand soldiers fighting in the Middle East during WW1, had a healthy respect for their Turkish Enemies.
First at Gallipoli then in Palestine and elsewhere in the region,
"Johnny Turk" was a formidable adversary.
These new Turkish infantry in action are a
"companion-release" to K&C first Australian Light Horse figures released in December 2009.
All of these six figures are in defensive fighting poses. More are in the pipeline, including artillery and historic personalities.

WWII - D. DAY MINUS ONE
The day before the "day of days". All over Southern England at docksides, on airfields, in hundreds of Army camps the soldiers, sailors and airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force wait for the order.
"Let’s Go!"
-
DD126 -- D Day Minus One-- Three US Army "Rangers" stand on a cold, wet English dockside waiting to board their Landing craft that will ferry them to France…
-
DD127 -- Standing Ranger -- His rifle resting at his feet another Ranger contemplates the coming battle.
-
DD128 -- Standing B.A.R. Gunner -- One more Ranger holding his B.A.R. machine gun.
-
DD129 -- Medic -- Holding his folded stretcher this Medic prepares to board.
-
DD132 -- US Beachmaster Set -- A 2-man US Navy team test out their equipment
-
DD133 -- Marching Ranger -- Rifle slung over his shoulder this GI heads for the landing craft.
-
DD134 -- Marching Ranger Officer -- This officer is leading his troops into position.
-
DD135 -- Sherman Firefly -- Another long-awaited and much-requested piece of Armour, the Sherman Firefly. A unique blend of American know-how and British ingenuity. The war-winning Sherman mounting the proven 76mm gun. At last an Allied tank that could take on (and destroy) all those Tigers and Panthers! This model is in the markings of
"B" Squadron of the 2nd. Armoured Battalion of the Irish Guards, part of the famous Guards Armoured Division. This K&C Firefly comes with two crew figures and a detachable radio Antenna and
"back-pack" of extra supplies.
-
DD136 -- Dismounted British Tank Crewmen -- Three superb "portraits" of typical British
"tankies", goes great alongside the Firefly.

WWII - Market Garden Airborne Reinforcements
After a long delay eagerly-awaited para reinforcements, for one of K&C’s most collected series. “Operation Market Garden”.
-
MG028 -- The Big Jump -- For the very first time, two of our British Paras (both different) jumping into the hell that was Arnhem. Like their U.S. airborne comrades these Brits descend on fully deployed ‘chutes ready for anything.
-
MG029 -- Radio Jeep -- Jeeps were essential to these airborne soldiers and so were radios. Fortunately the jeeps worked, unfortunately the radios did not! However, it’s all part of the “ARNHEM” story. Here an officer (with Sten gun ready) and his driver ferry their radio operator around the drop zone trying to get a better signal!
-
MG030 -- Movie Cameraman Sergeant Dennis Smith -- Sgt. Dennis Smith kneels down to film some of the action during the doomed battle
-
MG031 -- Mortar Team -- One of the iconic images of the battle were the photos of a lone British Mortar Team in action with their 81mm mortar.
This is our tribute to them.
-
MG032 -- Captured -- Sadly all too many of the British 1st. Airborne Division at Arnhem ended up killed, wounded or captured. Here, a casually smoking SS Panzer Grenadier guards two Paras, one seriously wounded. A poignant little set.
Look out for more Paras later!

Club Set #3 -
Update March 8, 2010.
-
JJCLUB-SET#3 -- Lt. William Dunbar - Battle On The Monongahela 1755
Probably the most requested figure by collectors of the Monongahela series is an officer to command the Grenadiers. "William Dunbar was a Lieutenant in the 44th Regiment of foot in 1755. He was apparently serving with the grenadier company and fought in the advance party at the Battle on the Monongahela. He was later employed in delivering provisions to the garrison at Fort Oswego in March 1756" Extract taken from "The Orderly Books Of Major General Edward Braddock" The basic unit of organization in the British regiment was the company. The normal strength of this company would be 40-60 men plus the officers. Typical organization would be:1 Captain, 1 Lieutenant, 1 Ensign, 2 Sergeants, 3 Corporals, 1-4 Musicians (drummers, fifers or pipers) and 30-60 privates.

JJCLUB-2010 -- Capt. John Jenkins of the Glengarry Light Infantry, “The Hero Of
Ogdensburg”, The War Of 1812
John Jenkins joined the 104th Regiment on 9th September 1804 as an ensign. In
1812 he was offered a captaincy in the Glengarry Light Infantry. It was recorded
that he was a man of “striking appearance”, and a member of a New Brunswick
Loyalist family. He is remembered for his leadership at the right column in the
capture of Ogdensburg. General Orders on 25th February praised Captain Jenkins,
as “the hero of Ogdensburg”. During this engagement he was to suffer severe
wounds to both arms, which saw his left arm later amputated at the shoulder.
After spending the summer in hospital, he was appointed town mayor of
Fredericton, in New Brunswick. He was to die in New Brunswick on 9th February
1819.
The Glengarry Light Infantry was formed in 1812, by order of Lieutenant General
Sir George Prevost. They were recruited from settlements of discharged Scottish
soldiers in the Glengarry district. They were originally intended to wear
highland uniforms, which would have included kilts, but instead they were issued
with the dark green uniform with black facings of the Rifle Brigade. Although
instead of rifles the Glengarry were only armed with muskets. Companies and
detachments fought in several actions in Upper Canada from 1813, and the whole
unit fought at the Battle of Lundy’s Lane. The unit specialized in British Light
infantry tactics and was well trained in skirmishing duties. The unit was
disbanded in 1816.

In Stock Now! Raid on St. Francis
Woodland Indians captives' were confronted with several fates. Women and children who were a burden, and enemy warriors perceived to be a threat were, usually scalped and killed immediately.
In general, however, prisoners were bound and led back to their captors' home village. The taking of captives satisfied demographic needs by providing a source of replacements for a tribe’s deceased members. It also fulfilled a spiritual and psychological function by easing grief, by providing a means for coping with death, and by restoring to the community the spiritual strength believed lost through the death of a clan member. The tribal council would normally assign each prisoner to a family that had lost relatives. In general, women, children, and skilled men were adopted into families. These captives were given the name, title, and position of the person they replaced, and, over time, became integrated into their new family and became loyal to their new tribe. Their capture thus eased the pain of bereavement, maintained the size of family, clan, and tribe, and restored the spiritual strength that the community had lost through the death of a member.
The two female captives depicted in this set could be sisters, from the family of a high ranking British officer?

LEX-002 -- Longhouse Extension #2
Creating some variety to the woodland Indian village, the Longhouse Extension pieces can be added to the existing buildings. These pieces can create interesting variations and add greater realism to the St. Francis village display.
The Extensions fit easily to the ends of either Longhouses.
Raid on St Francis

Jacobite Rebellion, 1745
-
JR-015 -- Combat Set #2 - Highlander and Grenadier
Normally the sight of a Highland charge was expected to send the British redcoats streaming to the rear in panic-stricken flight. It was generally reported that at Culloden, Barrell's Regiment at first bravely stood their ground, which may have been due to previous experience at Falkirk where they were one of the few Regiments to see off a Highland attack. The new bayonet drill was also to have played a key role. "The alteration was mightily little, but of the last consequence. Before this, the bayonet man attacked the sword man right fronting him: now the left hand bayonet attacked the sword fronting his next right hand man. He was then covered by the enemy’s shield where open on his left, and the enemy’s right open to him. This manner made an essential difference, staggered the enemy, who were not prepared to alter their way of fighting, and destroyed them in a manner rather to be conceived than told"
Jacobite Rebellion

Battle of Chippewa
-
QB-028 -- The 28th Regiment of Foot, Officer with Kings Colours
A Stand of colours is used to describe the 2 regimental infantry flags in the British Army. In 1747 the new regulations standardized these colours. "The King’s or first colours, of every regiment to be the Great Union. The second colours to be the colour of the facings of the Regiment with the Union in the Upper Canton"

Gordon at Khartoum
-
SUD-004 -- Egyptian Defenders
General Gordon arrived at Khartoum on February 18th, and spent his time between that date and the start of the siege of the city on March 12, in evacuating women and children. Two thousand of whom were sent safely through to Egypt, in addition to six hundred soldiers. It was stated by Sir Evelyn Baring (English consul-general to Egypt) that there were fifteen thousand persons in Khartoum who ought to be brought back to Egypt. These included Europeans, civil servants, widows and orphans, and a garrison of one thousand men. On January 26, Faraz Pasha a Lieutenant in the Egyptian army, opened the gates of the city to the enemy, and one of the most famous sieges in the world's history came to a close. It had lasted from March 12 to January 26 - exactly three hundred and twenty days. Two days later the English army of relief reached Khartoum. This month sees the release of the fourth and final set in the Gordon at Khartoum vignette, which is based on the painting by George William Joy.

Jacobite Rebellion, 1745
-
BJ-005 -- British 4th Regiment of Foot, (Barrell’s) GrenadiersSet # 1
Grenadier, derived from the word Grenade, was originally a specialized soldier,
first established in the mid to late 17th Century, for the throwing of grenades,
and sometimes assault operations.
It was usual for the Grenadiers to be chosen from the strongest and tallest
soldiers.
At this time the complicated movements necessary for the throwing of the grenade
made the adoption of a special headdress a necessary measure. Before the grenade
could be thrown, the musket had to be slung across the shoulder, which meant
that the cumbersome three-cornered hat generally worn at the time would usually
be knocked off. A tall mitre cap without any projecting brim was therefore
chosen.

Battle of Chippewa
-
BCH-009 -- 1st Regiment of Foot (Royal Scots), Wounded Officer with Regimental
Colours

or first colours, of every regiment to be the Great Union. The second colours to
be the colour of the facings of the Regiment with the Union in the upper
canton".
Please Note, this Flag is produced in metal, the same size and weight as BCH-008
