As dressed during the Gettysburg campaign, George Armstrong Custer wears his non-regulation velvet jacket with gold lace galloons on the sleeves and leather gauntlets. At his neck is the signature red necktie worn with the large sailor’s style collar in light blue with white decorations. Although later refereed to as ‘yellow hair,’ surviving samples of his hair clipped by his wife as a keepsake confirm a strawberry blond color.
