FOV86005 -- German Battleship Tirpitz - Norway, 1944

The infamous Bismarck's sister ship, the Battleship Tirpitz was the largest European battleship of WWII just slightly larger than her sibling. While she never fired a shot at an enemy ship during her short career, her presence in the Atlantic posed a very serious threat to allied shipping. Bristling with a deadly assortment of powerful guns and a pair of quadruple torpedo tubes, the devastating potential of her offensive capabilities mader her the target of several sinking attempts by British forces. The frequently battle-damaged and repaired Tirpitz, having finally been clasified 'unseaworthy" by the German Kriegsmarine, spent her last days in Norwegian waters as a floating gun battery. She was sunk by British Lancaster bombers during "Operation Catechism", on November 12, 1944
