The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards are not only Scotland’s senior regiment but through the Royal Scots Greys can claim to be the oldest surviving Cavalry of the Line in the British Army! In the spring of 2011 Britains shipped the Standard Party Set #BR48010 and with its success have followed up with a new kettle-drummer, officer and trooper. This allows you to recreate the entire unit, mounted, on parade. The kettle-drummer first appeared with the unit in 1766 and the distinctive white bearskin, first introduced between 1885 and 1889, caught on for good at the 1937 Coronation, where it caused quite a stir! The horse itself was a skewbald in the 1860’s, a grey covered with small black spots in 1885, and another skewbald while in South Africa during the Boer War. Upon returning from the war a black horse was purchased, establishing a tradition that has endured to this day.
