The Irish Brigade - 69th Regiment
Formed in November 1861, it fought in all of the major campaigns of the Army of the Potomac and suffered high casualties as a result. The Brigade fought at "Bloody Lane" at Antietem, below Marye's Heights at Fredericksburg, the battle in the Wheatfield at Gettysburg and at Chancellorsville. It lost over 4,000 men during the war. The Brigade was officially disbanded in June, 1864. |
